Erlend Øye’ & Maschat’s quarantime video fresh on youtube!
We all knew that Erlend Øye was one of the Kings of Convenience for real. But we should not predict that he would release an ALBUM during his lockdown: Quarantine at El Ganzo.
The Whitest Boy Alive got to Mexico in march, where they would have played at two festivals. Because of covid19, everything stopped. Guys were there some needed to come back, some not. Therefore, Erlend and Sebastian Maschat, drummer of the band, ended up spending their time at Hotel El Ganzo, in San José del Cabo. And they spent their quarantine recording some old and new songs.
The album: Quarantine at El Ganzo
They made the album – by Bubble Records, 14 songs, out on 2020 July 31 – with all they had: the music studio at the hotel, their voices, their instruments and new collaborators met on site. Total news of the work: we hear the VOICE of Sebastian Maschat and the one of spanish illustrator Clara Cebrian (singer at Keycard, last track).
For “Quarantime”, one of the coziest songs of the Quarantine at El Ganzo, Erlend asked his Instagram followers to share their moments at home through short videos, just to tell how their days were like.
People sent 880 authentic, fun and intimate contributions. Jose Rio mixed and directed all of them in a unique video out on Sept 13th. 4 minutes of a collective and universal memory of our lockdown we can all recognize into.
While last Erlend’s video, Paradiso, by Mike Beech was a big party in Siracusa (we wrote about it here), this is set inside the house of people from all around the world.
Thank you, Erlend and Sebastian. And thank you to all of you who share your “quarantime” with them.
A cool interview in which Erlend explain a lot more about how they ended up at El Ganzo, btw:
